And after that excellent cover, here is a list of more unusual covers that aren’t quite as nice coming out of left field so to speak. Paul Anka and Pat Boone’s are especially disturbing, though as always William Shatner is a front-runner.
As a really quick sidenote(because it’s very important to spread this in as many arenas as possible), those that follow me on Tumblr and any who happen to find this should really be made aware of this bill currently in the hands of our lawmakers.
It’s apparently not going to be deliberated on until November, but that’s just more time for people to know about it and to make their local politicians hear from them in regards to their opposition to it.
I’m only going to explain it briefly, however I will include a link below to a website that has much more information including a summary of the bill itself. What this bill will basically do is attack websites like Youtube, Google, Twitter and so on based on very broad loosely worded resolutions to the big copyright debate that goes on when it comes to the internet.
Now I understand that piracy is a real issue and that it can hurt industry, but this bill basically attempts to throw a net over the whole thing like it’s just a quick fix, when all the lawmakers are trying to do is help corporations that have their ear prosper further. It would create censorship, hurt the legitimate prosperity that the internet has created, and(as a video I will also post down below talks about) will take away legitimate jobs from people who’ve earned them!
Goodness knows we have trouble enough in this country with a lack of jobs, job growth, and unemployment. We don’t need some ridiculous government resolution that attempts to blanket a complicated issue with something that will only hurt the people it allegedly says it’s protecting!
I don’t defend piracy, however as a video maker on Youtube, a person who regularly tweets and someone who utilizes the internet they simply CANNOT do this. I want to be able to talk about music here, on my Youtube page, and share my thoughts with you freely in the open forum that we have here. It affects me, it affects you, and it affects just about anyone right down to the people that exchange funny cat videos around the office.
They could take these websites away by making them legally liable for EVERYTHING, when they already have a system of handling it. Don’t fix what isn’t broken, make sure our lawmakers don’t either.
Use the voice that we have in this country when we can band together to make change. Learn more info from the website below, get a much more lengthy detailed explanation from the Youtuber in the video, and get educated on this very important issue at hand. I only have this little sliver of the internet, but even from my branch I implore you into action.
Also, to break from the straightforward musical seriousness for just a moment, I have what is quite possibly the worst luck at getting a good screenshot for my videos on Youtube. Half of the time I looked drugged, like I just consumed a great deal of turkey, or like I’m attempting to punk myself.
Not much musically on my mind lately that was pressing to talk about, plus I traveled a little bit so I was pleasantly busy for a little while.
Alas the real world calls again, but so does music and I still have plenty that I’m going to be talking about soon. These past two days were a Ben Folds and Black Keys theme(makes for very good driving music), but coming up this week we have the new Tom Waits album, the first Black Keys single from their newest El Camino, and an artist named Owen with his latest LP called Ghost Town.
Plus there’ll be all the usual stuff in between and the songs I just have to post here with a comment, plus for those who are interested I will be seeing the Broadway smash Million Dollar Quartet this coming Friday!
